BALL STATE UNIVERSITY
Spring 2025 CS 120: Computer Science 1
Twenty-fourth Semi-annual All-section Art Show
Sponsored by the Department of Computer Science

Held in the AJ Atrium on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Eastern)

The collages shown below were created by students in the CS 120 course, and judged by their peers to be the best in each section of the course. Although these could have been created using an image-editing program, these students have written the code themselves to create these collages programmatically by manipulating individual pixels.

This page displays the entries from this semester. You may view entries from all other semesters. All student work included in this and other shows, as well as many other CS 120 students' work is provided in an online digital media repository maintained by the BSU University Libraries.

"Horse" by Jarrett Cole
Freshman; Computer and Info Technology major, Business Info Tech minor
colejarrett.jpg
Artist's statement: "I chose this design because it contains the things I struggled with the most, so I wanted to improve on those codes. I struggled the most with getting the red border around the outside even. The most rewarding part was improving in the parts I struggled with."

"Waterfalls" by Ethan Huff
Sophomore; Forensic Science major with a concentration in Biology
huffethan.jpg
Artist's statement: "I chose this design because I wanted to try something different. I chose a waterfall because it represents nature and that is something that I enjoy. The most challenging part for me was finding a picture that I could use because I was originally going to use a picture of a waterfall that I took, but I chose this image because it would be easier to work with. The end result was very rewarding because I was able to bring my vision to life."

"Fishy" by Bo Keen
Freshman; Animation major, Computer Science minor
keenbo.jpg
Artist's statement: "I chose the design because it uses the 9 boxes rule which is appealing and I wanted to draw a fish. I spent too much time on it. Halfway through I figured out what the return was and that was challenging before that. The most satisfying thing was just seeing it work."

"The Vast Space and Sea" by Beth Martin
Freshman; Animation major, Computer Science minor
martinbeth.jpg
Artist's statement: "I have been a nerd for the ocean all my life, knowing that the infinite space is more explored than our oceans fascinates me and inspired this collage. The most challenging thing was sizing everything so it works together. Seeing all the aspects of the piece come together was my reward."

Artist's statement: "I love red pandas and i couldn’t come up with anything more creative than throwing all the effects together. The most challenging part for me was finding time to work on the project. The most rewarding part was when the program actually ran properly for the first time."
