The Story

Three friends decide to build a snow fort at recess one day and they chose to build it surrounding the monkey bars. Unfortunately, other students want to play on the monkey bars and it is your task to defend the monkey bars from the other students.

About The Game

Snow Fort is a tower defense game. The player controls one character, and the player's two friends are computer-controlled. As enemies approach, attempting to attack the snow fort, the player and his friends try to hit them with snowballs. If successful, the enemy will disappear; if not successful, the enemy will destroy part of the fort. Some enemies will drop power-ups as they approach the fort. These can be picked up and used to the player's advantage. Power ups include: water, Twinkies, and gloves. These can be used for different purposes to help out the player. If the player makes it through a level with his fort being attacked less than three times, he moves on to the next level. There are ten levels in all, that repeat once ten is finished successfully.

The Collaboration

Snow Fort was designed as part of a collaboration between the Computer Science and Honors departments of Ball State University. The collabation was titled 'Introduction to Game Design' for students of the Honors College and CS339 for the Computer Science students. The class was divided into two groups the design team and the engineering team. The design team was composed of Honors College students who were to design the game while the Computer Science students, the engineering team, were to program the game. The Honors Students learned about the theory of good game design, the different genres, and even presented their own analysis of a game of their choice. The engineering team however learned methods of programming that are useful when programming a game.
