Objective

The students will be able to construct a pulley system using the K’nex pieces. They will also be able to explain how a pulley system works.

Materials

K’nex toys

Science Text Silver Burdett

Different weights in grams

Procedure

  1. We will handout the K’nex pieces to the children along with a handout explaining how to build and use a pulley system.
  2. The children will create a pulley with the pieces given to them.
  3. After it is constructed the children will test out their inventions with the different weights to see how it easy is to pull up the different weights with the different pulleys.
  4. Have the children record their findings and discuss as a class afterwards what they found out.
Evaluation

The children will be given different weights and different kinds of pulleys and be asked to figure out which one would take the least amount of effort to lift.
