According to Elementary Science
Methods: A Constructivist Approach by David Jerner Martin, there are
four major goals in elementary science: facility in the process skill,
proficiency in inquiry, development of positive attitudes, and the development
of children constructing their own conceptualizations. The K'nex Science
Lesson Plan - Building Bridges meets these goals. The students are working
with hands-on manipulatives to demonstrate proficiency of the objectives.
The students must investigate to determine questions which are later answered
through their own experimentation with the K'nex. Hopefully through this
lesson the students will develop a positive attitude towards science by
using the K'nex. Through this lesson, children will be doing science rather
that just learning about it.
