"Taste" is an 18th and 19th century term referring to the ability to have critical discernment, appreciation and judgment of art objects. "Taste" frequently connotes "Good Taste." It usually has at least two parts: the aesthetic temperament, or delicacy of feeling and observation, and the development of aesthetic judgment by exercise, experience and discipline. Taste is to Aesthetics as Character is to Ethics. Whether there is a universal or relative standard of taste is the unanswered question in aesthetic theory.
