Information for Students

For spring 2009 I'm teaching MATHS 311 (Algebraic Structures). Please keep in mind that I'm around at times other than my office hours, so feel free to drop by whenever.

Scholarship

In years past I've worked in Lie group representation theory, operator theory, and probabilistic number theory. Recently I've become interested in the Radon transform and Latin squares. Here are some recent publications/preprints.

I’m co-authoring a math content book for pre-service secondary teachers that will appear in the textbook series for MAA. Front matter for the book may be viewed here.

Biographical Information

I was born in Los Angeles and raised in Colorado Springs. I did my undergraduate work at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and went on to receive my Ph.D. in mathematics under Dr. Lisa Mantini at Oklahoma State University. While at OSU I met my wife Crystal, who is a half-time faculty member in the math department and mother to our two children Carolyn and Rob. My first academic job after finishing OSU was at Wingate University, a small private liberal arts college near Charlotte, NC. After three years at Wingate I went in search of greener pastures and took a job at Ball State University, where I've been since 1998.

Aside from mathematics, I like spending time with my family, reading classic novels and playing guitar for Broken Hill.
