The year 2000 Indiana State Mathematics Contest will be held 9:30 am local time on Saturday, April 29, 2000 at 15 sites throughout the State.
The categories have been modified for the 2000 Contest to allow students who are enrolled in integrated mathematics course sequences to participate. These courses, which are often part of reform curriculum efforts, present the contest of the more traditional Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II courses in integrated course formats.
Students who are enrolled in either an Algebra First Course or Integrated Mathematics I will register for the Algebra (First Course)/Integrated Mathematics I test. Students enrolled in Geometry or Integrated Mathematics Second Course will register for the Geometry/Integrated Mathematics II test. Students enrolled in either Algebra (Second Course) or Integrated Mathematics III will register for the Algebra (Second Course)/Integrated Mathematics III test. Each of these three tests (or their logical precursor from earlier years) may be taken only once by any student. The Pre-Algebra and Comprehensive tests will also be offered. As before, students who have not yet enrolled in an Algebra course may take (and repeat) the Pre-Algebra test. Any student in good standing may register for the Comprehensive test as often as desired. Schools are asked to verity that their participants are enrolled in appropriate courses. Site Chairs can address specific questions about eligibility.
This annual contest is sponsored by the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) and governed by policies approved by ICTM. This contest has been approved by the Division of School Activities, Indiana Association of School Principals. For more information or to be added to the mailing list, please contact a local site coordinator or the Contest Chair. We hope that you will encourage your students to participate in the 2000 contest.
