Microsoft Word 2000
Microsoft Word is a full-featured word processing program
that allows you to create attractive and professional documents quickly
and easily. You can enhance your documents by giving text a special appearance,
adding lines, shading, and creating tables.
I expect that most of you have used a word processor before,
so Project 1 of Microsoft Word 2000, Creating and
Editing a Word Document (Your Microsoft 2000 Lab book, WD 1.1 until WD 1.58)
will be easy for you. You will be creating the "Summit Peak Announcement". This
announcement is displayed in Figure 1-1 on WD 1.7
For those of you who do not have much word processing experience, the individual
steps necessary to create this document are provided by the red filled circles
in the Shelly Cashman book.
After you have finished this document, replace
the word SUMMIT with your last name! Do a print preview. If you are
pleased with the appearance, print a copy for your lab instructor. A printed
copy is necessary for your 45 lab points!
Finally, save the file in the html format.
Click the File on the menu bar and Highlight Save as HTML.
You will be prompted to give it a name. Choose the name as Lab4HTML. Save it
on your diskette or zip disk. Note:
If you do not have the Save as HTML on your File menu, you
can still save as HTML. Do a Save as ... and when that familiar
Save as window pops up, change the Save as type (bottom of the window,
text box) to HTML document.
Open the file Lab4HTML, by doubling clicking it. Look at
its appearance. What format did not get transferred over?
Notes on
Launching Word
Starting Word may be different on various systems. Your Shelly Cashman book
tells (shows) you to click the Start button on the taskbar and then the New
Office Document on the Start Menu. To start Word on my machine,
I click the Start button on the taskbar, on the Start
menu, I point to Programs, then on the Programs menu I finally click Microsoft Word (one of several dozen programs).
Other Program menus may have been organized to group the MS products together
as MS Office folder. If you do not have Microsoft Word look for MS Office then
Microsoft Word.
Inserting the clip art
If we do not have the skier, double click on any clip art to insert into
the announcement.
